Privacy policy
Your privacy, in plain language.
Your profile isn’t part of an endless public dating catalog. Freefall only shows your profile when you’re matched.
Last updated: August 22, 2026
This policy explains what information Freefall collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We’ve written it to be read, not skimmed past. If anything is unclear, write to hello@freefall.app and we’ll explain.
The short version
- We collect only what Freefall needs to introduce you to one person at a time.
- Your profile is visible to exactly one person: your current match. There is no public catalog, no browsing, and no search.
- We never sell your information. We never show you ads.
- Your match never sees your exact location.
- You can delete your account — and the information that goes with it — from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account basics. You sign in with your Apple account. We receive an identifier and, if you share it, your name and email address.
- Your profile. Your photos, first name, age, city, interests, and the answers you choose to share — like what you’re hoping to find.
- Your preferences. Who you’d like to meet: gender, age range, distance, and intentions.
- Messages. The texts and photos you exchange with your match. Messages are stored so your conversation works across your devices, and they are not used for advertising — Freefall has no advertising.
- Feedback and reports. If you end a match and choose to tell us why, or if you report someone, we keep that so we can act on it. Feedback about a match is private to Freefall and is never shown to the other person.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s location to determine your general area, so we can find someone near you. We show your match a general location, such as a city — never your precise coordinates.
- Device information. A push notification token (so we can tell you about a new match or message) and basic technical details needed to keep the app working reliably.
How we use your information
- To find your match. Our matchmakers use your profile, your preferences, and the feedback you give on previous matches to find one match for you at a time.
- To run the app. Delivering messages, syncing your conversation, and sending the notifications you’ve turned on.
- To keep people safe. Reviewing reports, enforcing our guidelines, and preventing blocked people from being reintroduced.
- To operate the nonprofit. Processing donations you choose to make and responding when you contact us.
Who can see your profile
Your profile isn’t part of an endless public dating catalog. Freefall only shows your profile when you’re matched — and then only to that one person. When a match ends, their access to your profile ends too. Beyond your match, your information is visible only to the small number of people who operate Freefall, and only when their work requires it — for example, reviewing a report you filed.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your personal information. To anyone.
- We never show ads, so nothing about you is used for ad targeting.
- We never post to your social accounts or require them at all.
- We never show your exact location to anyone.
- We never make your profile publicly searchable or browsable.
Sharing with service providers
Freefall runs on infrastructure we rent — hosting, push notification delivery through Apple, and a payment processor for donations. These providers handle data only to provide their service to us, and donation card details go to the payment processor, not to Freefall’s servers. We share information with authorities only when the law genuinely requires it.
How long we keep things
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, preferences, and conversations are removed from active systems promptly, and from backups on a short, fixed schedule. We may retain limited records where the law requires it — for example, donation records — or where needed to keep a blocked person blocked.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account any time from inside the app under Settings. Deletion is permanent: your profile and conversations are removed and cannot be recovered. You don’t need to email anyone or answer any questions to leave.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access inside Freefall is limited and logged, and we keep the amount of data we hold deliberately small — the best way to protect data is to not collect it in the first place.
Age requirement
Freefall is for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it, and we remove accounts of anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect — not bury it in a changelog.
